CURTAIN HEADINGS

The curtain heading can make all the difference in how your window covering looks and feels. It’s an essential element of any curtain that provides structure and shape, but also adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the interior. At Murray’s Interiors, you can choose from a wide range of curtain headings, including Wave, Inverted Pleat, Double Pinch Pleat, Triple Pinch Pleat, Pencil Pleat, and Goblet Pleat, each beautiful in its own way.

Wave or S Fold

The Wave or S Fold heading is a popular option for those who appreciate a contemporary aesthetic. Featuring a soft, continuous wave-like fold, it creates a relaxed, casual look that pairs beautifully with modern and minimalist living spaces.

  • Modern contemporary styling
  • Curtains always sit underneath the track making the track a feature
  • Works particularly well with sheer curtain fabric but can be used on other soft draping fabrics.
  • Does not work well on stiff fabric as it will not hold the wave shape
  • Takes up a little more space when stacked back than other headings so may not be suitable if short on space.

Inverted Pleat or Box Pleat

Another classic contemporary heading with great decorative potential. The inverted curtain heading has a neat and structured pleat that works well when space is at a premium. It’s a beautiful choice for the living room or dining room or any other area that can benefit from a more formal and streamlined look.

  • Classic contemporary look
  • More streamlines than the Double and Triple pinch pleat, less bulk and detail.
  • Great alternative to the S fold when space is an issue
  • Can be used with sheer or heavier fabric
  • Can sit underneath a decorative rod for a more contemporary look
  • Can sit in front of a standard curtain track to give better light control.

Double Pinch Pleat

A traditional style that has stood the test of time, the double pinch pleat remains a popular and versatile curtain heading. Perfect for medium and heavier fabrics, this heading type won’t add too much bulk to the curtain, making it an ideal choice for the living room or home office.

  • Traditional heading style, still very popular
  • Works well with heavier fabrics as does not add too much bulk to the curtain
  • Easy to add a lining to this heading style for additional light filtering
  • Additional linings can either be permanently sewn in or hooked on to be removed and washed or easily replaced.

Triple Pinch Pleat

If you want to add extra fullness to your curtains, choose a triple pinch pleat. This luxurious heading style works well with both sheer and heavier fabrics, making it a beautiful choice for formal settings.

  • Traditional heading style, still very popular
  • Works well with sheer fabric as adds extra fullness giving a more luxurious feel to the room
  • Easy to add a lining to this heading style for additional light filtering
  • Additional linings can either be permanently sewn in or hooked on to be removed and washed or easily replaced.

Pencil Pleat

The pencil pleat is a great option for adding texture and visual interest to a room. It’s a simple and traditional heading style, still found in bedrooms and kitchens in Australia. The pencil pleat works well with sheer fabric since it creates ruffles that add fullness to the curtain.

  • A simple gathered heading, usually 100mm tall
  • Works well with sheer fabric as additional fullness can be added easily.
  • Can be easily adjusted in the home as the gather is easy to pull tighter or loosen off.
  • Used a lot on linings when paired with a sheer on a double track, a reduced amount of fabric is used to reduce bulk behind the sheer.
  • Easy to add a lining to this heading style for additional light filtering
  • Additional linings can either be permanently sewn in or hooked on to be removed and washed or easily replaced.

Goblet Pleat

Dressing windows in a formal setting? The goblet pleat can effortlessly create a sense of luxury and elegance. It features a rounded, goblet-like shape, that adds a touch of grandeur and sophistication to the room.

  • Formal look
  • Sits below a curtain rod rather than in front of a track.
  • Usually used with heavier fabrics
